VX

VX - the best sport you've never heard of!

So what is VX?  We say the recipe is a 'little lacrosse, a dash of dodgeball, a hint of hockey and a pinch of pelota.'  It is the simplest sport there is - no goals, no markings, no targets.

Played in teams of 5 there are 5 balls in play and points are scored by hitting an opponent with one of the balls (scores 1 points) or catching an opponent's throw (scores 3 points).  Unlike in dodgeball players can go anywhere and unlike in dodgeball they are not 'out' when they are hit.  They raise a hand  and look to the referee to indicate they have been hit and are then told to play on.  With 5 balls in play the game is fast and furious with no stops.   Teachers love this for their pupils as it gets them all involved and has the core values of Honesty, Integrity, Sportsmanship and Respect.

It is also played as singles (V2) with 3 balls in a squash court.  This is even faster and more intense There is even a Quidditch version (which is better than the official Quidditch!)

There are clubs, leagues and tournaments right up to international level with an annual V2 World Cup and a VX World Cup every four years.

This sport is highly inclusive as it is accessible to people with a wide range of cognitive impairments.  It is also gender neutral in all disciplines and at all levels - right from a primary school taster session to a V2 World Cup.

VX has gone into many schools in the UK and is now growing internationally with a toe hold in several countries.  It is growing particularly fast in India, Uganda, Hong Kong and Kenya with other countries in the pipeline.

Quite simply nothing, but nothing, I have ever done in my life has the impact that VX has.

Honesty

Integrity

Sportsmanship

Respect

Want to get involved?

VX is always looking for more people to get involved.  Everyone is a volunteer at the moment - coaches, players, administrators.  VX England need more people to get involved in volunteering, coaching, helping with clubs, setting up clubs, helping with event organisation.  We need more players - we have some very sporty players but we also have people who do no other sport whatsoever.  They get opportunities with VX that they wouldn't get elsewhere.

On another level VX International is keen to discuss commercial partnerships and representatives abroad

and Global VX is keen to see new NGBs being established, and to discuss sponsorship opportunities.

V2 - singles.  Intense.  Personal.  Gladiatorial

This is the version that is driving the growth of the sport.  Playing singles makes it easy to set up a club and establish competition.  It's fast and furious but beginners can be playing at a fast pace very quickly

VX - the team game

Some people prefer the team game because they like to have the support of a team around them, or the different tactics that are involved.  Teams tend to come out of clubs that got started by a group of people getting together to play V2

Opportunities

We have very sporty players and we also have people who do no other sport and yet who have represented their country.  Do you want to play sport at an international level?  Coach? Officiate?  could you help with a club, with an administrative body, with video creation?  This is a fascinating sport driven by volunteers - how could you help?
