WaterTube consists of machine-blown polyethylene tube welded to form ribs creating a robust sealed tubular unit that can contain over 20 litres of water. Installed around a small tree in much the same way as a basic tree guard, WaterTube is held in place by three wooden stakes. The tree is thus protected by a tough and resilient structure that resists the elements and animal pests.

The WaterTube constantly delivers water to the plant at the most critical time for it -immediately after it is planted. From Day1, when it receives over 3.5 litres of water to about Day 16 when it receives about 500 ml of water, it is constantly nurtured. At the beginning, the water volume in the WaterTube forces more water out. Then as the days go by, the rate of water dripped onto the plant's roots slows down as the water volume in the WaterTube reduces. The benefits are many. The roots grow more quickly, and the plant matures faster.

While filled with water, the WaterTube offsets variation in climatic conditions: it warms the interior when the atmosphere is cold and maintains cooler temperatures in fierce direct sunshine with an ultro-violet resistant outer jacket. WaterTube ensures higher survival rates, reducing planting and cultivation costs and increasing yield.
