Sorry - I still need to work on this but at least I can point
you in a worthwhile direction.
I love the Blues, I love original Rock n Roll, but best of
all I love Rhythm n Blues. In 1975 I saw a band on TV which blew my
mind. I've followed them ever since. There are a couple of brilliant
pages on the Web about them.
Check them out:
Dr Feelgood's
official web page is superbly run by Gabi and gives all the info about
them including tour dates - believe me, Feelgood are worth checking out.
Gabi's page also has a good section on the brilliant
Wilko Johnson the
original (and unique) Feelgoods guitarist. Wilko's own page is at
www.wilkojohnson.com
The band are still touring, 25 years on and are still red hot. Check
them out!!
I've also been a fan of Roy Orbison since I was a child.
Check out the Roy Orbison page.
Finally, I recently came across a guy called Christie Hennessy.
He's Irish and his music just grabbed me - so relaxing. It soothes the
cares away. It's a mixture of blues, folk and a bit of pop - and it
works. The first album we bought was 'The Box'. It's quite an unusual
concept in that it's one song divided into 21 pieces. It works and
it's worth a listen. Since then we've bought another couple of
Christie Hennessy albums: 'Lord of Your Eyes' and 'A Year in the Life'. Excellent
stuff (but I think I like 'The Box' best of all..
As a child I was put through the usual piano lessons, which
served to prove that I'm really not very talented, musically. I managed
to achieve Grade 4 which was probably my limit. I moved on to teaching
myself electric guitar and electric bass and managed to become reasonably
good at those. I haven't had time to do much for years, now, though,
so the old fingers have got a bit rusty. It's quite frustrating to think
that there's some nice kit not getting used like it should be. Still,
Tom wants to learn, so it will come in - and give me an excuse to play again!!
